The FAA joined academia, the airlines, and hobby enthusiasts to face lawmakers on Capitol Hill last week as the Aviation Subcommittee of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee drilled down to find out what must be done to keep privately owned unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) out of the path of airlines, and at the same time encourage a $2.5 billion commercial drone industry that is expected to sell up to one million units over the holidays.

toacorn.com - On a recent Saturday patrol, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopter launched skyward and took in a bird's-eye view of the Santa Monica Mountains and Malibu coastline to check out hot spots where rescues often occur. The Aero Bureau operates 20 helicopters that support law enforcement ground units and work with rescue teams to find missing or stranded hikers, injured mountain bikers, lost swimmers, and car accident victims in remote areas.

England (Western Morning News) - The private company stepping into the role of sentinel of the South West's coastline says it has been extremely busy since taking to the air. Bristow Helicopters Ltd took over search and rescue (S&R) operations from the RAF crew at Chivenor in North Devon with a new based established at St Athan in South Wales.
