RAMONA, CA (10news.com) - A hiker is recovering from heat exhaustion Monday after a helicopter plucked him off a trail that leads to Cedar Creek Falls in Ramona.

RAF MILDENHALL, England (Stars and Stripes) — A bevy of U.S. aircraft, including helicopters, stationed in England raced across the Atlantic Ocean off Ireland’s coast Friday to rescue a member of a cargo ship who fell seriously ill Thursday evening.

Forest Grove, OR (The Hillsboro Argus) - Rescue crews from Cornelius and Forest Grove got a lucky break Monday when a car crash in Verboort occurred while firefighters were training with a Corvallis-based helicopter rescue team.

BRUNSWICK, GA - The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a 24-year-old man from a disabled 17-foot boat in the Darien River, Ga., at approximately 12:15 a.m. Thursday.

Hedgehope, New Zealand (June 23, 2009 - The Southland Times) - A penlight torch was critical in helping locate a missing Southland hunter who had spent six hours in a creek after falling down a bluff. The man was airlifted out of dense bush about 11.50 p.m. on Sunday by an Otago Rescue Helicopter's crew and flown to the search and rescue team's makeshift headquarters.

Fox Phoenix News - A 60-year-old Colorado man has been rescued after falling during hiking in the Grand Canyon. The Boulder man was climbing in a drainage off the South Rim's Bright Angel Trail when he slipped and fell. Because of his location, a rescue helicopter had to be called in. The man was then transported to the South Rim Helibase and then the Flagstaff Medical Center.

Aberdaron, Wales (June 18, 2009 - BBC News) - A 48-year-old angler was saved in a rescue by an RAF helicopter after struggling in the water for an hour. The man from Bolton, who was with a friend, had been washed off rocks while fishing near Aberdaron near the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula.

Aberporth, Wales (Tivy-Side Advertiser) - A major rescue operation was mounted at Aberporth on Sunday after a youngster fell 30 feet from rocks. Coastguards from Gwbert and New Quay, plus a rescue helicopter from RAF Chivenor were called to the scene. A Coastguard spokesman said: "It was a very tricky rescue because of the very rocky foreshore at that point. Thankfully, with skilful manoeuvering the rescue helicopter was able to get to him and winch him to safety."

Lyme Regis, England (June 13, 2009 - BYM Marine and Maritime News) - At 7pm on Friday, Portland Coastguard received a broken Mayday call from the 20ft yacht Harnser, reporting he was on the rocks somewhere between Lyme Regis and West Bay, in Lyme Bay. Portland Coastguard was only able to ascertain it was a 20ft vessel, with one person on board, on rocks and the crewman was about to abandon ship, before contact was lost.

Portland Coastguard immediately scrambled Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 106, Lyme Regis and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams, and Lyme Regis RNLI Inshore Lifeboat to try and locate the casualty.

SEATTLE, WA – A Coast Guard response boat crew from Station Bellingham, Wash., located two people from an overturned canoe two miles south of Anacortes, Wash., Thursday.

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO (Post Independent) - Search and Rescue teams from two counties located a hiker late Saturday afternoon in the remote “Devils Causeway” area of the Flattops Wilderness, after he had been missing since midday Friday.

Sun Gazette, Pennsylvania - A worker for a contracting company on an East Resources natural gas drilling site was injured Monday and life-flighted to an area hospital, according to an East Resources representative.  Tioga County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Dennis A. Colegrove, said that Mansfield Ambulance responded to the scene and that Guthrie Air was the helicopter that performed the medevac.

Agusta Chronicle - Everett Matthews, a motorcyclist from Alabama, was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital after crashing into the concrete edge of an exit ramp median on Interstate-20, shortly before 11 a.m.  According to Columbia County sheriff’s Deputy Erik Napier, the motorcycle’s footboard struck a small reflective post, which sent Mr. Matthews tumbling into the grassy area between the ramp and the interstate.  Traffic in the eastbound lanes briefly was halted to allow a Gold Cross helicopter ambulance to land.

Langley Times - June 4, 2009 - A man is in serious condition after the Nissan Sentra he was driving crashed into a train on the Aldergrove/Abbotsford border at 5:19 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.  His rescuers included firefighters from both the Township and Abbotsford, and B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics. Township crews secured a landing zone at the southwest corner of Baynes Road and 56 Avenue for the medevac helicopter.

Action4 News - A crew member from a shipping barge is recovering in the hospital after suffering a heart attack and being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard near Port Mansfield.  A Coast Guard rescue helicopter was dispatched from Corpus Christi.  The helicopter landed on the barge, picked up the crewmember and safely transported him to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi.

Fairfax County Police and U.S. Park Police helicopter crews worked in tandem along with firefighters and rescue boaters to pull two fishermen from the edge of a dam on the Occoquan River in Fairfax County, Virginia.  The fishing duo came into grief on Sunday afternoon when their boat's motor developed mechanical problems and began drifting towards the dam.

WCPO 9 News - A driver was flown to the hospital following an early morning accident in Clermont County [Ohio] that ended with his car flipped onto its side.  The crash happened around 6:20 Tuesday morning along the 2800 block of State Route 222 in front of the Monroe Township firehouse.  Rescue crews had to cut the man from the vehicle before a medical helicopter flew him to University Hospital.

ASTORIA, Oregon - The Coast Guard rescued six Oregon National Guardsmen from a capsized 32-foot vessel approximately two miles from the mouth of the Columbia River near Ilwaco, Washington.  A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Cape Disappointment, Wash., and an MH-60J rescue helicopter crew from Group/Air Station Astoria were immediately sent to the area to assist.

Green Valley News - Border Patrol agents rescued a diabetic man Tuesday morning who became ill while hiking in a canyon near Nogales.  The man, a U.S. citizen, was hiking in Sycamore Canyon Monday evening when he reportedly began to feel sick and called the Border Patrol, according to Agent Mario Escalante, a Tucson Sector spokesman.  When BORSTAR (Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue) agents found the man around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, he was stable but in need of medical attention, he said. He was taken to Tucson hospital by helicopter.

stargazette.com - A Cornell University student from the U.S. Virgin Islands was listed Tuesday in fair condition at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., where she was flown after being rescued from Six Mile Creek Monday evening after a fall in the gorge.

BBC - A doctor and paramedic had to be doused with water while they treated a man for serious injuries trapped in a burning van in Berkshire.  Two passers-by unsuccessfully tried to pull the man free from the burning wreckage after the van came off the M4 near Reading and hit an electrical box.  Fire crews sprayed water over the driver and two air ambulance crewmen before the man, aged 51, was released.  He was airlifted to hospital suffering burns and fractures to his ankles.

The Comet News - The East of England Ambulance Service this afternoon called upon the assistance of the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance for the second time today in Stevenage.  Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson who attended the incident said: "A man sustained a serious leg injury which required a doctor to stabilise him further at the scene. The air ambulance was called and landed in a nearby playground.

WCVB - ABC - Massachusetts - The Coast Guard rescued a French rower off the coast of Cape Cod Friday after he failed in his attempt to across the Atlantic Ocean in a row boat.  Charlie Girard, 28, called the Coast Guard at about 8:25 a.m. Friday to say he was unable to finish his 3,317-mile row that started in Orleans and was supposed to end in France.

News Transcript - Ambulances had trouble getting to the Key West victims once they had been brought to the beach, but eventually the victims were removed from their vessel, put on back boards and transported via the Manasquan Water Taxi pontoon boat to a local marina where ambulances and a medical helicopter took the  accident victims to the hospital.
